FAQ

QBCC cannot issue permits once the owner builder work is completed. They can only provide you with a letter for submission with an application for a development approval.

Yes. You must have successfully completed the Whitecard course (CPCCWHS1001 - Working Safely in the Construction Industry).

Owner-builder work is essentially any work (in addition to organizing and supervising) involving the construction of, or alterations, repairs or additions to, a dwelling:

  • Where the reasonable market cost (inclusive of materials and labor) exceeds $10,000 and
  • Is in relation to a single dwelling-house, a secondary dwelling (possibly in special cases an owner-builder permit may be granted for dual occupancy).
  • When there is a need for development approval within Part 4 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, or
  • A complying development within Part 4 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979.

If the market value (inclusive of the materials and labor) of the residential building exceeds $20,000, you will need to do the NSW Owner Builder Course to evidence that you have in fact met the Owner Builder education requirements stipulated by Fair Trading. Without the Owner Builder education certification, you will not qualify to receive the Owner Builder Permit.

There are certain accreditations which meet the education requirements for an Owner Builder in NSW. The NSW green card is no longer valid in NSW or any other state. You will need to do the Whitecard course again.

Yes, there are restrictions if you want to do Owner Building for a living. The QBCC places the limitation that only one permit may be issue every 6 years.

Yes.

  • Only one permit can be issued every 6 years.
  • QBCC cannot assist in any types of disputes whatsoever.
  • Owner Builders do not have any protection through Home Warranty Insurance.

Upon successfully completing your Whitecard course and satisfying our ID requirements, your Whitecard will be mailed to your residential address on the same day.

Upon successfully completing the Whitecard course you will have a Statement of Attainment emailed to you as well.

Yes, you can use your Whitecard providing you still do construction work within two years of your training. Otherwise, your Whitecard will become void and you will need to redo the Whitecard course again.

You can use your blue card and don't have to do the Whitecard course.

Self-Paced Online Learning

To successfully complete the work placement for the course Certificate III in Education Support (CHC30213), you will need to contact both primary and secondary schools to gain practical experience working with students. A minimum number of 100 hours is required to complete your work placement.

Minimum 6 months and maximum of 12 months.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course however the students must be:

  • 18 years and above
  • Have a working with children check
  • Sound Computer skills
  • Have sound language, literacy and numeracy skills (year 10 English and math skills)

This course is distance learning and is self-paced which will enable you to complete all modules/ units at your own convenience. Certificate III in education Support has a total of 17 units which comprises of:

  • 12 core units and
  • 5 electives.

This is a Nationally recognised and accredited qualification for teacher’s assistant. You will have 12 months to complete this course with full trainer support via email, webinars and phone call.

This latest teacher’s aide course is designed specifically to develop the knowledge and skills required to work safely and effectively with students in a school setting. The entire course is easy to follow and is clustered under 5 workbooks and 1 practical skills workbook, which means this will avoid any duplication of material and work.

Self-Paced Online Learning

To successfully complete your studies in the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC30113) you will need to initiate contact with a registered child care facility to complete workplace based experience to solidify your practical experience and skills in working with babies, toddlers and children (minimum 120 hours and maximum 240 hours).

There are no entry requirements for this course, however it is preferred that students:

  • Are 18 years or older
  • Have sound language and literacy and numeracy skills (at least Year 10 English and Math, or equivalent)
  • Have basic computer skills
